Spring/Summer Essentials, No.1

The next several posts will cover what I consider to be stylish essentials for spring/summer...in no particular order! As always, I welcome feedback, suggestions, even criticism, if that's all you can think of...

First up, knee length "shorts" or bermudas. The selection available in years past was so heinous that once "short shorts" were no longer appropriate, I opted to sweat summer out in jeans. Not so these days...lucky us! Perhaps not flattering to all, but I am a huge fan. At least try some on and give it a sec before swearing them off. A few nice examples:Washed Belted Linen Shorts, Boden USA, $54. Dress these up or down...wear them to a lacrosse game or dinner at friends'...Tropical Patchwork Madras Bermudas, JCrew, $78. You don't have to wear them with heels and a button down...but it does look fab. Railroad stripe bermudas, Old Navy, $25. Stripes hide stains...grass stains, mud stains, Kool-aide stains...Billabong Girls Wendall Plaid short, Zumiez, $40. Youthful.Campsite Shorts, Anthropologie, $118. I can actually picture myself playing in the dirt with my family in these... Joe's Jeans Stretch Denim Bermuda Shorts, Nordstrom, $178. These are saying, "Wear me, I'm Comfortable."

cold and wet outside...

It feels like it has been raining for weeks here in Williamsburg. Rainy weather makes me want to get cozy...so today's post is all cottony comfort. Featherweight V-neck tee, JJill, $15. (Just ignore the creepy expression on this lady's face.)
French terry tee, JJill, $49. Laughing it up by the pool.
Sheer jersey scoop neck t-shirt, Bella, $21. Simple.

Mossimo Hoodie, Target, $18. Beach bum is better than just plain bum, am I right?

rugby stripes

I remember raiding my dad's closet and shopping in the boys' department for rugby shirts in the sixth grade. I think rugby shirts were kind of uncool for a while, but my closet is full of rugby stripe inspired t-shirts. (Believe it or not, I was even on a rugby team for a bit in college!) Lately, I've noticed a resurgence of that classic, preppy-ish look, much to my delight... just can't get enough of that thick, juicy stripe.

You too?Taffeta Rugby Skirt, JCrew, $175. Dress 'em up...Rugby striped terry tunic, Gap, $44.50. ...or down. This one looks so comfortable.

This would be so cute over a little Shade shirt. Love the colors. Rugby Babydoll Cami, Forever 21, $9.90.Rugby Hooded Cardigan, Forever 21, $30. A cute spring sweater.Xhilaration Square-Neck Stripe Baby-doll top, Target, $20.Rugby Stripe Tankini, Urban Outfitters, $48. Pretty swimsuit.
Nike Three Quarter Sleeve Stripe Hoodie, Nordstrom, $40. The wide bands of white are so flattering.Short sleeve rugby stripe shirt, Free People, $98. Hmmmm...green or yellow?

Athleta

"No matter where you're headed and what you have in store, this season it's all about the dress. One piece, packable and flattering. How much better can it get?"

That's what the clothing company Athleta has to say...and I tend to agree. As we all head out of town (or just around town) for vacations, etc, here are three outfits that make me want to wander.

Tie Front Dress, $89, Finesse Knicker, $34, and St. Martin Wedge, $89. I am loving this outfit from Athleta.com.Dip Dye Audry Dress, $150, Athleta.com. Super soft stretch micromodal. Yum. (Probably needs an undershirt.)
Tissue TooHip Tunic, $69, Adjustable Tunic Cami, $49, Karma Capri, $54, and Ropeswing Ballet Flat, $65, Athleta.com. Let's see a close up of those ballet flats...
Gorgeous!
Have fun wherever you're going, and remember, pack light!

Lucy workout pants

These pants by Lucy are the active-wear pants that I have been looking for. They are a flattering fit, quick drying, soft material, and best of all: they don't get "knees." These are the best exercise pants I've ever had. At $74 a pair, get them in black and wear often!
