These sandals below are Anissa by Clarks, but they are $84.

Here's the good news. I found a pair of Clarks very similar to these at TJ Maxx a few weeks ago for just $30. And they are extremely comfortable. Finding quality shoes on sale is the ideal situation, but here are a couple other finds for you just in case...

Some super inexpensive ones by Payless, Hoffman sandal, $23. Or how about these from CutesyGirl, just $17. A lot higher heel than you asked for, but they are an attractive low-cost option.

Layering undershirts. I wear them with just about everything, just about every day.

While I have worn shirts by Shade ($17.50 each or 3 for $48) for the last couple of years and I still like their brand, I was a bit frustrated by how easily my son was able to pull at the neck opening and completely ruin the elastic, which looks kinda stupid. Last week a friend recommended On the Hip...I ordered three white layering shirts for just $10 each. I was a bit worried about the quality at that price, but they got here super fast and I've been loving them. The quality is great. Very soft, nice length, and the neck has thicker binding that my one-year-old can't seem to stretch out.

There are several other brands available online. Undertease is actually the first one I tried. They are a bit pricey, $29 for one, but they do have some lovely colors. Their fabric in my experience is super stretchy. I prefer a slightly looser fit, but I have friends who love this brand.

Now here's a new idea:

If you only need more coverage around your neck and arms, Mia Bellina has cropped layering shirts, $10.95. Has anyone tried this one?

I have a vague memory of a band of fabric someone sells, something like a tube top so you can just add length if if you prefer. However, I have been unable to locate that product. Anyone know more about this?

Another online brand available is Down East Basics.

Their prices are always low, just $9.99 per shirt.

Next, we have Layers. Classic, $17.

Here's another brand, ModBe.

Their Second-Skin capsleeve is $18.

Coverwear also offers a capsleeve for $18.

And finally, Divine ModesTee has a capsleeve basic as well. One for $18.95 or 3 for $52.

I've been on the road for a couple of days, without internet access, but I'm back!

The Maxi dress. Long and billowy, these floor-skimming dresses are the embodiment of the current silhouette trend of fitted around the bust and then loose around the stomach. Romantic and charming, flattering...especially on taller women.

They look great during the day, or for dressier occasions.

Definitely pair this look with wedge heels, thong sandals, and embellished flip flops.

Shabby Apple has a new dress that follows this trend using neutral colors... Cleopatra, Shabby Apple, $59. This is a great choice because you don't need an undershirt.

All the other maxi dresses I have seen require an undershirt. But don't let that stop you!

The other great way to wear this look is to select a bold, colorful print. This incorporates two more of the season's trends...bold prints and safari influence.

The Dress. One piece of clothing and you're ready to go...an irresistible concept especially in the UNBEARABLY HOT summer months ahead. Personally, I've been stocking up so I can wear a dress every day of the week--I can't get enough of those delicious cooling breezes that pants just don't provide. I'll be honest, I felt a little silly the first few times I wore a "Sunday" dress to the playground...but it's just so comfortable you have to try it!

I suggest wearing flat sandals if you're going casual. Save the heels for dressier occasions.

The next several posts will cover what I consider to be stylish essentials for spring/summer...in no particular order! As always, I welcome feedback, suggestions, even criticism, if that's all you can think of...

First up, knee length "shorts" or bermudas. The selection available in years past was so heinous that once "short shorts" were no longer appropriate, I opted to sweat summer out in jeans. Not so these days...lucky us! Perhaps not flattering to all, but I am a huge fan. At least try some on and give it a sec before swearing them off. I remember raiding my dad's closet and shopping in the boys' department for rugby shirts in the sixth grade. I think rugby shirts were kind of uncool for a while, but my closet is full of rugby stripe inspired t-shirts. (Believe it or not, I was even on a rugby team for a bit in college!) Lately, I've noticed a resurgence of that classic, preppy-ish look, much to my delight... just can't get enough of that thick, juicy stripe.

I've heard people claim they hate cardigans, so I've put together a compilation of cardi's. There's sure to be one to please.

Here are the key elements to Mallory's style...

Three words to describe my taste...trendy, classic, simple.
My three favorite brands/stores are...Forever 21, H & M, Banana Republic.
The best season for clothing is summer...bright colors, flip flops, and you can carry a lightweight jacket to add to the outfit, especially in the evening.
I never leave home without...my purse and cute shoes.
I've got a great style secret: I've gotten some of my favorite items at Banana Republic on sale... on huge sale. They have great sales!
I get inspiration for my personal style from all over; I take a bit from everything to make my own style.
My worst fashion-victim moment: I don't think I really have one, but I probably would say peasant tops...I looked awful in them.

As many of you know, I'm the busy mother of an active one-year-old boy...
In the last few months, I realized I wasn't wearing jewelry anymore. Ever. It made me kind of sad to think that I had just given up on that extra touch of style. So, I decided to keep things simple but also a little sexy. I found one pair of earrings in each of the following colors: brown, black, white, silver, gold, and turquoise. Now I throw on a pair with each outfit, and that's all I bother with. It actually makes me feel younger! And, I didn't spend much at all.

When Michelle mentioned her search for a semi-formal dress to wear to a law school function, my first thought was Little Black Dress. As an intern and future attorney, she will be required to attend numerous semi-formal social events. If you have a similar career path, or are married to someone who does, you may want to take note...

According to Wikipedia,

A little black dress is an evening or cocktail dress, cut simply and often with a short skirt, originally made popular in the 1920s by the fashion designer Coco Chanel. Intended by Chanel to be long-lasting, versatile, affordable, accessible to the widest market possible and in a neutral color, its continued ubiquity is such that many refer to it by its abbreviation, LBD.

The "little black dress" is considered essential to a complete wardrobe by many women and fashion observers, who believe it a "rule of fashion" that every woman should own a simple, elegant black dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion: for example, worn with a jacket and pumps for daytime business wear or with more ornate jewelry and accessories for evening. I ordered the pattern and am going to start cutting it out today. My goal is to get good enough at this to make it as gifts for the women in my life.

I'm thinking it's worth it though, especially if you wear it with red flats. Gorgeous!Justine pants, $98. Machine wash. Look at those cuffs! Love the exposed button fly. They also have "a bit of spandex for an ultra comfortable fit." Genius.French Quarter skirt, $98. Travels well, machine wash. Very pretty.Country Station skirt, $158. Machine wash. One of the prettiest long skirts I've seen.

Here are my picks.Fizzy spot top, $58, machine washable (no ironing!)Favorite V Neck Cardigan, Corozo nut buttons, contrast color inside placket, and machine washable, $68, comes in several vibrant colors.Slim cropped jeans, $78. These also come in a nice dark denim, but wouldn't white crops be more fun? Get some now and wear them all spring and summer.Long washed linen skirt, $78. If you are looking for a long skirt, this is a great one. It's machine washable and linen, so you don't have to iron it. I like this versatile shade of blue.
